| Introduction |
Geoinformatics is a multi-billion industry with wide ranging applications in almost all walks of life. Extensively used in the developed countries, it is still in nascent stage in this part of the globe. Currently there is acute shortage of skilled human resource in the industry. In the near future, there would be tremendous scope for employment in this field with accelerated growth and development prospects. With every passing day, Geoinformatics is finding a burgeoning market through wide ranging applications in diverse fields in the corporate sector. SIG’s two years full time MSc course aims to train and empower professionals for analytical decision making and meet the high demand for skilled manpower in challenging fields such as utility enhancement, eco-monitoring, town planning, resource management and e-governance to name a few.

| Mission |
- To impart rigorous training in Geoinformatics encompassing GIS, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
- Lay special emphasis on industry requirements such as AM/FM, vehicle tracking, E-Governance and Spatial Decision Support Systems.
- Enable students with additional IT and Business management skills leading to an elevated career profile.
- Provide industry exposure through extensive project work matching global expectations.
- Provide contemporary training abreast with the latest technology trend.
SIG has Infrastructure ideally suited to conduct training which exposes students to the recent developments taking place in the corporate world of Geoinformatics.
Laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art computing facilities such as
- Powerful computers in network environments with large monitors,
- Server for centralized resources management and
- Internet facilities for world wide literature referencing.
- GIS softwares: GIS software suits that are mostly preferred in the industry.
- Image processing softwares: Image processing software suits that are much in use in the industry.
- Photogrammetry software suits.
- Global Positioning System
- Programming tools
- Quality management tools
- Light tables for satellite image interpretation

- Maps from varied sources

A library with books on a variety of subject is available for use of the students. A well-established hostel and canteen facility centrally established by the Symbiosis Society is available for use of the students. Students from SIG are offered limited seats by the Society. The seats are allotted on first come first serve basis.
The Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) is an in-house Health Care Centre exclusive for staff and students of Symbiosis. Each student is insured under Medi-claim and Road Traffic Accident policies. SIHS also has a modern state-of-the-art health club and fitness center to facilitate all round development of the students. |

Graduates or Post Graduates in Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Geology, Geography, Information Technology, Computer Science, Management and Commerce with 50% marks in graduation. [45% for SC/ST] Final year students awaiting results may also apply. |
